Abstract

Multipole field reconnection electromagnetic launchers are highly efficient electromagnetic transmitters, which can solve the inherent flaws in conventional electromagnetic launchers such as the small axial thrust and the sliding contact. In addition, there are many tunable parameters for this launch mode. In order to improve the acceleration performance, the axial acceleration force, the efficiency of the system and influence of capacitor parameters on the emission performance is focused in this paper. Some theories about this launch mode is introduced. A finite-element model of the system was constructed and the commercial finite-element software Ansys Maxwell was applied. The simulation results indicate that increasing the voltage and capacitance of the capacitor can improve the axial acceleration force of the projectile, but the efficiency of the system may not be enhanced. We proposed that it should be appropriate to reduce the capacitance, while increasing the charging voltage value at high-speed launch. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
