Abstract

Use of an intra-articular route of injection (a single, hind limb knee joint) and a protein antigen (human serum albumin)in water-in-oil emulsion with added mycobacterial peptidoglycolipid (or Wax D) failed to induce an adjuvant effect upon the resulting immunological response observed three weeks later. Serum antibody levels as measured by the Farr Test (ABC<subscript>30</subscript> μg/ml) and cell-mediated immunity as measured by a quantitative corneal test were consistently lower than those which followed use of a footpad route for the same injection mixture.
