Abstract

In this article the author focuses on the art works and style of French painter Paul Gauguin. According to the author Gauguin has been ranked, with other famous painters, as a founding father of modern art. Some scholars believe that Gauguin only isolates and emphasizes the large, sharply silhouetted areas of flat, uniform color, the abrupt contrasts of hue, the suppression of accidents of light or detail, the simplified, open rhythms. In some of his paintings, Gauguin either too drastically simplifies the large, central masses or complicates excessively the distribution of the smaller, subsidiary spots of color.
