Abstract
- The article focuses on the first annual "Newport Folk Festival," held on July 11 and 12 in Newport, Rhode Island. The festival was not a complete artistic success and it raised questions about future directions that remain to be resolved, but it was a stalwart beginning for what promises to become one of the most invigorating projects on the summer music scene. But performances by musicians Leon Bibb, Jimmie Driftwood, Pat Clancy and Tommy Makem were some of the significant features of the festival.
