Abstract

This article discusses several issues related to politics and society in the U.S. Focus is on a statement by publisher and journalist Freda Kirchwey which addresses the readers of the periodical "The Nation." It informs about a change in the editorial position due to his resignation. The statement highlights the problems faced in financing of the periodical. The statement is followed by another statement by publisher George G. Kirstein, stating that the new publisher of an established magazine like "The Nation" has an obligation to readers, advertisers, and the public generally to state his position regarding the future policies of the journal. "The Nation" has a proud past as a voice for liberalism in America. It has stood through nearly a century for progress and reform.
