Threats of armed resistance against any attempt to modify the White Paper restrictions on Jewish immigration and land purchases by Jews in Palestine have been issued frequently by Arab politicians, and relayed by correspondents and observers, ever since the Anglo-American Inquiry Committee in the spring of 1946, recommended the admission of 100,000 Jewish D.P's into Palestine. The threats have increased in volume and vehemence since the publication of the majority report of the United Nations Special Committee on Palestine (UNSCOP), recommending the partition of Palestine into two states-one Arab, one Jewish.
