Abstract

This article provides information on the book "The Age of Enterprise," by Thomas C. Cochran and William Miller. Early in this "social history of industrial America" Cochran and Miller assert that the people of the U.S., have not been a people essentially political, literary, metaphysical, or religious. There cannot be the shadow of doubt that business has been something very special in the American national life, it as far back as 1834. There is little essentially new in "The Age of Enterprise," and the authors emphasize that their purpose has been "simply to make the non-professional reader acquainted with what one believes to be at once the most useful and most easily available books and magazines which bear upon the subject.
