Abstract

In spite of political appearances and campaign utterances, oil is not the only natural resource, belonging to the nation, which has been attacked. In 1921 an attempt was made to undermine the present effective and efficient control of the national forests. At that time several bills were introduced into the U.S. Congress providing for what seemed on the face of it a harmless change in the administrative control of the Forest Service. In addition to the timber and the grazing, the water power available in the national forests and the recreational values in the form of fish and game, camping grounds, show the worth of this great national resource.
