The article focuses on several issues related to the First World War. There are hitches and double hitches about the liquidation of the wartime entanglements of China. The Washington agreements brought about the abandonment of the British-Japanese alliance, which was a relief to China, but the business of getting Great Britain out of Wei-hai-wei and Japan out of Kiao-ehau has moved more slowly.
