Abstract

The article reports on the impact of Instagram's policy to downgrade images it considers too sexy on lingerie and swimwear brands that rely on social media to generate brand awareness. According to Playful Promises, engagement with its followers was cut in half following the implementation of the policy by the photo-sharing network in April 2019. The policy has affected the profits of brands, influencers and retailers that use the network.
