Abstract
- The article explores the effect of the procedural history of a sanctioning institution on cooperation in a social dilemma. Topics discussed include advantages and disadvantages of democratic decision-making, channels proposed to explain the effect of a democratic voting procedure on those individuals affected by the institutional outcome, and observation on whether a change in subjects' beliefs about the others' cooperation behavior causes the observed treatment effects on cooperation.
