Abstract

This article presents an interview with Tim Poole, president of Sacramento, California-based digital printing company Dome Printing. In the fall of 2003, the company further proved its caretaker abilities by achieving International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001:2000 registration, which provides quality standards to help companies meet customer expectations. The printer reports that by boosting employee involvement and performance, ISO certification has helped streamline productivity, reduce waste and improve product reliability. Such advances helped Dome Printing win its third consecutive NAPL Management plus award in February 2004. ISO 9001:2000 is all about quality standards measured by customer satisfaction. For many years, Dome Printing had processes in place to ensure quality management. The difference in become ISO-registered is that the company can clearly document those processes and measure performance to those standards. Digital Printing is a family-managed company. Each family member's role have developed through doing what they enjoy and finding what best suits their talents. Each family member is results-oriented, trusts each other and are not afraid to question one another. Having different opinions and perspectives allows them to have passionate discussions, resulting in a better-managed company.
