Abstract

The development of a "practice" orientation is receiving increasing support among sociologists. As the demand for sociological employment outside the university increases, traditional sociological training must be reevaluated. The following article discusses two such efforts: (1) a graduate program in Community Sociology designed to train sociologists for nonacademic careers; and (2) a projected program of "continuing education" for sociologists already at work in the field. The philosophies, components and interrelationships of these two efforts are detailed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
