Abstract

We explored team leaders and members' perceptions on shared leadership in the South Korean business context. We asked about the participants' perceptions on definition and needs, antecedents, and development of shared leadership in their departments. We conducted semi-structured interviews with seven teams from different departments, each including one team leader and two team members, totaling 21 participants. Using a traditional qualitative data analysis technique, we came up with several themes on definition and needs of shared leadership, driving forces, and restraining forces for implementing shared leadership. Then, strategies on how to develop shared leadership based on interview results were presented for organizational development professionals.
