Abstract

TOO FAST FOR THE RULES: THE R32 GT-R WAS THE BEAST THAT ATE BATHURST, YET IT WAS FAR MORE AN AUSTRALIAN CAR THAN IT'S OFTEN GIVEN CREDIT FOR. V8 legends Richards and Skaife, guided by acclaimed Nissan team boss Fred Gibson, established the GT-R in Australian motor racing folklore -- and infamy -- by overwhelming the opposition in '91/92. Winner of five touring car titles and six Bathurst 1000s, Skaife, who has been heavily aligned with Nissan and Holden in his racing career, also remembers the R32 Skyline GT-R road car fondly. PHOTO (COLOR): Touring car champion Mark Skaife and guru team owner Fred Gibson recall the glory days when they ruled local Group A racing with the R32. [Extracted from the article]
