Kestabilan Kewangan Liga Sukan Profesional: Analisis Perundangan terhadap Peraturan dan Amalan Liga Sukan Profesional.

The professional and prestigious sports league is one of the efforts to improve social ties in society and the economic development of a country. The maintenance of competitive balance element is the cornerstone of creating a competitive sports league with the ability to attract local and international communities' participation. This paper intends to, first, examine and evaluate the existing regulation and practice of the professional sports league management in term of whether there is a violation of antitrust regulation; and second, to propose some improvements to the existing regulation, so that it is in line with the aim of making the prestigious professional sports league that benefit the community, especially those directly involved in the sports industry, and the country's economic development respectively. This research based on qualitative legal research. An analysis of the antitrust behaviour as contained in the Competition Act 2010 was carried out against the rules and practices of the sale of broadcasting rights set by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM).The findings show that, any infringement of antitrust restrictions that exist in the determination of rules and practice of selling the sports league rights is a factor for failure in maintaining the 'competitive balance' element for a sports league. Such infringement will distract the smoothness of the league revenue and affects the financial stability of the league. Apart from that, the professional sports league industry also will be ultimately affected negatively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
