Abstract

The article presents information on political developments in various countries. The people of Philippines take a languid interest in the elevation and assimilation of Filipinos. Officially viewed, the situation is that of tolerably complete conquest. The U.S. troops are in every province, native municipal government set up in all the garrisoned towers, resistance confined to bands of robbers, the insurgent army and organization dissolved. The supposed massacre of representatives of the Christian Powers at Pekin has aroused a spirit which it is impossible to regard without apprehension. There was a natural and legitimate demand for the punishment of persons guilty of the reported cruelties, whether they were directly or indirectly responsible.
