Abstract
- In her book, Kucinskas answers these questions with a thorough and critical examination of the contemplative movement, an elite social movement centered on silent prayer and personal spiritual development. Kucinskas also acknowledges that Buddhism is infused into the broader American cultures through social movements - the process within which people challenge an established authority through collective and communal efforts - but that this completive movement is initiated and sustained by elites.
