Abstract

This paper presents a new multi‐force touch technology that augments standard capacitive touch sensing in flat panel, and potentially flexible, displays. It uses an augmented approach and yields both location and force in a single‐signal, which is then separated and conditioned using unique analog and digital signal processing algorithms. Location‐by‐force is intrinsic to this new UltraTouch technology, thus enabling stylus‐independent, under‐water interactivity. In view of the simplicity in stack‐up architecture, the technology is compatible to roll‐to‐roll touch panel production lines, scalable to large areas, and importantly, low in cost.
