Sensors for Process Monitoring: Casting and Powder Metallurgy.

The article presents information about the use of sensors in the process of metallurgical casting. Casting is being done increasingly by computer integrated manufacturing systems requiring sensors. The sensors need tolerance to severe conditions of foundry. The sensors include melt contacts which come in direct contact with molten material in foundry and those without molt contacts which do not come in direct contact with the molt. Purpose-based sensors are also mentioned.
