In the absence of their natural hosts animal fleas can bite man. Various stages of sensitization seem to occur and the sufferers may show immediate urticarical or delayed popular skin reactions. Mast cells contain high concentrations of various inflammation mediators especially for allergic reactions including histamine and protinases. Human mast cells have shown to differ markedly from mast cells in several animal species.
