Abstract

The article describes the case of a 40-year-old male with a history of heliotrope rash and painless swelling of the left cheek which is a symptom of dermatomyositis. Topics include inflammation of the left mandibular subcutaneous tissue as confirmed by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), characteristics of patients with melanoma differentiation-associated protein 5 (MDA5)-associated dermatomyositis, and the need of physicians to be aware of the unique clinical picture to avoid diagnostic delay.
