Abstract

The article presents paper on human fetal skin development. It informs that stratum corneum is the outermost layer of mature human epidermis, which functions to protect our skin from external invasion and loss of internal fluids. This layer develops from a proliferation of basal cells that go through a pattern of differentiation with eventual formation of squamous cells, granular cells, and finally, cells of the stratum corneum. It further informs that four weeks after conception, human fetal skin is composed of periderm and a basal cell layer.
