Abstract

The article discusses the lessons learned from the suffrage movement in the U.S. Topics covered include the ratification of the 19th Amendment which protects the female citizens' constitutional right to vote, the adoption of The Declaration of Sentiments by the Seneca Falls Convention on women's suffrage in July 1848 and the move of the U.S. Congress to pass the Voting Rights Act in 1965 protecting African American men and women and other racial minorities from discriminatory voting practices.
