Abstract

A few politicians, who have lost all power except for a little temporary mischief are making great efforts to organize a new party to be devoted to the support of the president's policy. The cry for a new party is responded to by some papers and politicians of the South, who see what has become of the old Democratic party, at the North, and are anxious to secure for their section a larger support here than they can hope for under the present condition of parties. It is easy to talk of the disintegration of the Union party, but the simple fact that all, the object of the proposed new party is to defeat the Union-Republicans, is a sufficient answer to these vain imaginings.
