Abstract

Tucker's depiction of Katie keeps one foot in the past - in aiming to depict Katie in her own setting - and one foot in the present - in reflecting on her life through a twenty-first century lens. Tucker concludes with a brief reflection on knowing Katie mostly through the available sources of Martin's letters, and also through Katie's few letters, all concerned with business dealings. While some theologians rose at four-o-clock in the morning for prayers, Katie rose at such an hour to begin her work, meriting Katie the title "morning star of Wittenberg" by Martin (p. 120).
