The article presents information about abstracts of various papers that will be discussed at the Main Session of the 6th European Congress on Epileptology that will be held on June 3, 2004. One of the papers that will be discussed is "Rational Polytherapy, Exploiting Pharmacodynamic Interactions for Clinical Benefit," by E. Perucca. The rational approach to the treatment of epilepsy requires initially the use of a single drug, chosen on the basis of efficacy spectrum and expected tolerability profile. When seizures cannot be suppressed completely with a single antiepileptic drug, a trial of combination therapy is warranted. Other papers that will be discussed are "Pharmacogenetics, Ion Channels and Antiepileptic Drugs," by M. Baulac and "Deep Brain Stimulation," by P. Boon.
