Syndromic Surveillance in Puerto Rico During the COVID-19 Response: An Alternative Approach to Scarce Molecular Testing.

An editorial is presented which discusses the public health emergency (PHE) response to COVID-19 in Puerto Rico, including the limited amount of molecular testing for COVID-19. An overview of the public health initiative Epidemiological Syndromic Surveillance System's (ESSS's) role in medical decision-making in Puerto Rico, including its monitoring COVID-19 symptoms data, is provided.
