Abstract

Presents information on a bill introduced by Senator Andrew Murray calling for the creation of a Missouri Valley Authority (MVA); Division of the functions among the Commerce Committee, the Reclamation Committee and the Agriculture Committee; Disparagement of the legislation by the railroads because it provides for the development of water transportation, ignoring the fact that regionalism, with its promised industrial development, will add immeasurably to the freight to be transported by land; Difficulties of the Department of the Interior; Establishment of general policies by Congress in the original Tennessee Valley Authority Act and in subsequent amendments; View that the action on the MVA bill will decide whether the United States Government is going to go ahead with the development of decentralization techniques or is to face the increasing complexities of centralization.
