Abstract

The Corporate Entrepreneurship Assessment Instrument (CEAI) has four dimensions that have been shown to be valid measures of the internal antecedents of corporate entrepreneurship. Previous research provides evidence that time availability, rewards / reinforcement, top management support, and work discretion are related to job satisfaction, motivation to innovate, new ideas implemented and even entrepreneurial orientation (EO). In this paper, we apply the configurations approach to the four dimensions of the CEAI while also considering strategic and environmental factors to a sample of 207 firms to provide insight into the most common configurations of the four dimensions of CEAI that relate to the outcome of high financial performance. Our findings indicate three particularly noteworthy findings: work discretion is a necessary condition across all configurations of high financial performance; either strategic intentionality or entrepreneurial orientation must be present as a condition for high financial performance; and that there are conditions in which low levels of entrepreneurial orientation are necessary for high financial performance.
