Abstract

With large disparities in enrollment and completion rates, girls' education is a topic of concern in Turkey. Private funding campaigns have played an important role in combating gender inequality in education. This paper examines the impact of two major private funding campaigns on girls' schooling rates using Turkish provincial level data for 2013 and 2014. Controlling for regional and socio-demographic characteristics our findings show that "Dad, Send Me to School" and "Snowdrops" campaigns have positively influenced girls' schooling rates in primary and lower secondary education across Turkish provinces. The effect is less conclusive for upper secondary education. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
