- The author discusses her conversation with Stan Smurthwaite, a former minister of Baptist churches in Toronto, Ontario, about his love of receiving letters from his fellow readers of "Maclean's." Among the topics that Smurthwaite has shared with his pen pals include his service in the British Royal Navy, his painting hobby, some tales of his family, and his work in the church.
