AWARDS.

This paper presents an update on awards in the U.S. as of February 1989. Parenting Magazine gave its first annual Reading-Magic Awards for excellence in children's literature to ten titles that includes The Tom and Pippo series, written and illustrated by Helen Oxenbury. Barbara Nugent, director of the Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped in New York City, was among six recipients of the 16th Annual Fund for the City of New York Public Service Awards. She received $5,000 and was honored by city officials, in part, for her efforts in the campaign to get approval for a new 56,000 square-foot-building to be opened in July 1990. Merilyn Grosshans, librarian at Las Vegas High School, was the 1988 recipient of the Special Achievement Award, to be given annually by the Children's/School Division of the Nevada Library Association.
