Abstract
- The article focuses on how African American artists used their work to address law enforcement harassment of minorities in 2016. Topics discussed include the contributions of three albums, including "Black Messiah" by D'Angelo, to the African American renaissance in 2014, several African American artists whose music turned inward as racism proliferated like Rihanna and Beyoncé, and the expansion of African American culture and creative freedom.
