Perspectives on Asian tourism: experiences from the field.

This paper provides a personal statement concerning the author's involvement in tourism research in Asia, particularly Indonesia and China, including Taiwan. Personal background and major projects are introduced, and seven research dimensions are suggested: the role of tourism, extending project activities, finance, synergy, timing, collaboration, and language and culture. Current activities are outlined. Concluding comments address timeliness, a long-term perspective, cultural empathy and making a difference. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
