Abstract
- The relationship between tourism and subjective well-being (SWB) has received much academic attention. However, how residents' SWB was influenced by tourism remains unexplored. Grand Prix has been recognised as the most internationally prestigious sports event in Macau. However, it has also been listed as one of the most controversial events with a couple of negative impacts. On the basis of the context of Macau Grand Prix, this study aims to explore Macau residents' SWB as well as its influences on their supports for tourism. This study developed and validated a more comprehensive model of residents' SWB. Drawing on a survey of 419 valid responses during the 64th Macau Grand Prix in 2017, this study confirms that community benefits, followed by cultural education benefit, are the strongest factors affecting residents' SWB. In addition, the quality of life concern and resources allocation concern show a negative influence on Affective well-being. Furthermore, the results indicate that Macau local residents show strong support and demonstrate positive attitudes towards this event. Finally, some suggestions are put forward to balance the benefits among different stakeholders and further improve the SWB of Macau residents. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
