Community engagement: Finding history where it lives.

The article describes the project titled "Reclaiming the African American Heritage of Southern Illinois" developed by the Southern Illinois University Carbondale Special Collections Research Center (SCRC) to document the African American experience in southern Illinois. Topics discussed the initial goal of the project to assist community members to preserve and share their personal archives and stories, community events held by SCRC for the project, and importance of promoting the initiative.
