Abstract

Since 1987 unions could organise to establish labour rights and union density expanded to 10 per cent despite confronted by challenges of anti-union conglomerates. Gradually a move to tripartism in 1998, the government is Korea's largest employer with union density of 68 per cent with a private sector organised enterprise unions in metal working, in which health and medical workers and financial sector comprising only 10 per cent of unions. Companies still maintain successful union avoidance strategies with Amazon's recent success in preventing a vote for union recognition demonstrates this anti-union recognition success.
