Abstract
- An artificial ligament tensile and torsion fatigue testing device was designed aiming at the implant failure of artificial ligaments due to stretching and torsion in vivo. The device was composed of a computer, a fabric strength tester, a mechanical sensor, an upper clamping device and a torsion fatigue device component that simulates the shear load of the anterior cruciate ligament of the human body. Two self-made artificial ligaments with braiding structures were used for tensile and torsion fatigue testing to verify the feasibility of the device. The results indicate that the apparent morphology of the artificial ligament is partially altered after fatigue loading and that fiber dislocation due to the torsional shear loading may cause postoperative complications, in addition to a loss of tensile and elastic recovery properties of the artificial ligament. The device has good simulation and testing stability, which can provide guidance for the research and development, industrialization and clinical use of the artificial ligament.
