Abstract

The research work aims to provide some insight about the environmental friendly CeO2 NPs coating on Mild steel plate for improving corrosion inhibition in marine environment. CeO<subscript>2</subscript> coating on MS plate was prepared by spin coating technique. The morphology, chemical composition, and crystalline nature of the prepared CeO<subscript>2</subscript>NPs were studied using a scanning electronic microscope (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy with elemental mapping technique (EDS), X- ray diffraction (XRD), and Raman spectroscopy analysis. The corrosion resistance of the coatings in artificial seawater is evaluated using electrochemical methods such as Tafel polarisation and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. CeO<subscript>2</subscript> NPs by spin coating technique have produce more uniform and compact structure and present a better corrosion protection of MS in artificial seawater. The coatings were found to be stable, and the number of coatings of CeO<subscript>2</subscript> NPs significantly improved the microstructural properties, hardness behaviour, and corrosion inhibition of MS plates in a marine setting. Overall, the benefits of spin coating CeO<subscript>2</subscript> NPs on MS plates are demonstrated clearly. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
