Abstract

Bio-based materials and products help sustain material supply by replacing fossil-based resources, with renewable raw materials, contributing to circular economy objectives and bioeconomy strategy plan. Waterborne alkyd emulsions due to its composition may contain renewable material content even at the levels of 99%, making ideal solution for biobased "green" coatings especially for wooden or metallic surfaces. Stable dispersion of particles of nano-SiO<subscript>2</subscript>, also called as colloidal tend to enhance the performance of coatings when combined with the main binder. Mechanical and physical properties of the modified with colloidal silica, alkyd emulsion, such as hardness, gloss level, bending properties, cross cut and pull-off adhesion will be scrutinized.
