Abstract

The article presents the views of three Anglophone writers who analyzed Léo Taxil's mystification on previous catholic conspiracy theories about Freemasonry and Satanic veneer. It includes the scholar of esotericism Arthur Edward Waite, the lawyer and antiquarian George Francis Legge, and American mediaevalist Henry Charles Lea. All of them provide a different glimpse of the controversy.
