Abstract

The article discusses global climate change. Current scientific understanding of global climate change suggests that an increasing frequency of disasters due to extreme weather events will be even more conspicuous feature as the twenty-first century progresses. The climate change we are experiencing is better characterized as increased instability rather than simple "global warming." Recent advances in paleoclimatology have made possible a better analysis of the historical and archaeological record, no longer limited to tree rings, we now have climate records based on deep cores drilled in glacial ice and lake sediments from Antarctica to Greenland.
