Abstract

The article focuses on the development of beliefs, attitudes and behavior in adolescents in the Netherlands between 1995 and 2000. The Carrier Wave Campaign was initially aimed at the entire Dutch public. However, soon it became clear that, when it concerns adolescents, this subject deserves special attention. Adolescents not only form a group that will be around for a while, so a lot can be gained with good education, they also have growing purchasing power, which makes them increasingly able to pollute. The Carrier Wave Campaign attempted to raise public consciousness of environmental issues. For both adults and adolescents the goal was to internalize environmental norms and values, to ensure that environmentally friendly behavior would naturally result from this.
