The type D personality construct was originally developed in Belgian with a cardiovascular disease patients, but later evidence began to emerge that this construct is equally applicable to cardiovascular disease patients of other nationalities, including those in countries such as Denmark, Germany, Hungary and Italy. The study aims to highlight the potential role of personality as a determinant of emotional distress in patients with cardiovascular disease. The paper brings additional information to studies already existing in other countries, personality type D being a psychological risk factor in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease.
