In a recent checklist, some 531 moss species were reported (Natcheva and Ganeva [110]), but in a subsequent account of the mosses of SE Europe some 576 species have been recorded from this country (Blockeel, Bednarek-Ochyra, et al. [25]; Blockeel, Chlebicki, et al. [26]; Sabovljevi'c et al. [143]).
