Abstract
- Using a reaction between secondary amines, sodium hydroxide, and carbon disulfide followed by introducing methyl iodide into the reaction mixture, we synthesized and characterized a number of dialkyldithiocarbamic acid methyl esters that contained n-alkyl and iso-alkyl groups (C<subscript>2</subscript>–C<subscript>5</subscript>). Tribological performance data were obtained for the compounds synthesized as they were added to synthetic lubricants. The additives were demonstrated to markedly improve the antiwear, antiseizure, and antifriction properties of the resultant lubricating compositions. The effects of the concentration and structure of the esters on the friction and wear parameters of the lubricants were investigated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
