Abstract

A reconstruction of the Latin and Roman legends of Odysseus and his sons in Tyrrhenian Italy is proposed, although the information is contrasting, discussing the literary evidence on the traveling hero and his sons. Generally, they are more attested with reference to Etruscan and Latin cities, even in competition with the Trojan legend and Aeneas. The legends of Tusculum and Mamilii are historically relevant and help to understand the function of the use of this myth, between the will to classify the Other, self-representation, family stories, political choice, erudition and pleasures of myth.
