Comparison of Piano Practicing Habits and Attitude Levels of Vocal Students.

Abstract

Piano practicing habits are one of the most important factors that affect the process of how to play the piano and the performances of music students. The study aims to examine the piano practicing habits and attitudes of vocal students towards piano lessons by comparing them according to gender and class variables. In addition, the aim is to put forward relations between piano practicing habits and attitudes towards piano classes. This study was conducted on 120 vocal students studying at Marmara University, Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University, Necmettin Erbakan University, Erciyes University, Kırşehir Ahi Evran University, Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University, Giresun University, Trabzon University, Atatürk University, Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University, Balıkesir University, Ağrı İbrahim Çeçen University, Van, Yüzüncü Yıl University, Dicle University, Afyon Kocatepe University, Sivas Cumhuriyet University, Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University, Mersin University, Ordu University, Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University. In the collection of research data, piano practicing habits and piano class attitude scales have been used. According to research results, it has been observed that the practicing habits of the vocal students in instrumental technique, preparation, and warm-up habits are at a medium level and a high level in other dimensions. It was found that the general piano practicing habits of the participants were at a high level. Piano practicing habits of the students differed according to gender and class level variables. Besides significant relations between piano practicing habits and attitudes towards piano classes were found. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
