EFFECT OF SALINITY STRESS ON SOME BIOCHEMICAL INDICATORS OF LEPIDIUM SATIVUM L. PLANT.

Abstract
- Oxygen radicals are one of the most important plant production responses to environmental conditions changes, reactive oxygen species (ROS), it leads to damage cell constituents (self-death) such as DNA, proteins and lipids, the high level of free radicals leading to organized cell death. A study was carried out to study the response of cress leaves to different abiotic salinity stress. Total Ascorbate Peroxidase (APXs) activity significantly changed in response to salinity stress in a time-dependent manner reached 2.5X after nine days of exposure in comparison with control treatment. Besides the total APXs activity, many other measurements indicators were included in this study such as hydrogen peroxide quantification, anthocyanin's content, carotenoids contents, lipid peroxidation levels and protein contents. The current study to understand the crosstalk between the salinity stress and the production level of ascorbate peroxidases under adverse stress at the level proteins and lipid peroxidation.
